About Us
Sweet Home Doberman Rescue (SHDR) is the only 501c3, not for profit Doberman rescue organization in Alabama. Founded in 2015, SHDR has committed to the rescue, rehabilitation, and placement of abused, abandoned, and/or neglected Dobermans.
It is SHDR's personal mission to assist these magnificent breeds in any way we can.
We are dedicated to educating the public as well as future Doberman owners about these majestic, often misunderstood breeds. They are often portrayed as aggressive dogs who will attack at a moment's notice when in fact they are Velcro dogs who are loyal, protective, and want to please their family! A Doberman wants nothing more than to be by your side and on your couch.
Dog of the Month
Hey there! I’m Olive, a two year old female Doberman.
I’m awful lucky to be in rescue! I was surrendered to a shelter when my people had to move and couldn’t take me with them. That stinks! I caught a nasty cold while I was in the clink, but I’m recovered and feeling much better now in my foster home! I am a VERY smart and sweet girl with a lot of love to give and a lot of energy to burn. I get along great with other dogs and love playing chase with my foster brothers.
My foster mom says I’m “busy”, and I guess that’s true! I like to smell all the smells and hear all the sounds and see all the things. I’m told I’m “reactive”, but I’m working on it! However, my forever home will need to have a tall privacy fence, no cats, and an owner committed to helping me continue to train my busy brain on staying focused and learning to be calm in new situations.
I am crate trained, housebroken, spayed, chipped, and up to date on all my shots. All that’s missing is my forever home!
