Linda
Linda

Linda is a 2 year old gal who loves to cuddle!! She gets along with most dogs. Linda loves to snuggle and bonds closely with her person. We do not recommend a home with kids at this time, they kind of freak her out. She does need someone who is home a lot, as she does get some anxiety when her humans leave the house.

Winston Furhill
Winston Furhill

Winston is a 10 year old shepherd. Do not let his age fool you, this boy is SPUNKY!! He enjoys swimming in the pond and staying busy. This boy does best with female dogs his size and adores any person he meets. He is not fully house trained yet (working on it), and will likely be missing some of his fur and be skinny the rest of his life. While he may be rough around the edges, Winston has so much love left to give.

Gaia
Gaia

Gaia is a lovely 6.5 year old who was born on Christmas Eve! She is a typical sassy female, you must love this to really love all of Gaia! She is also a typical velcro Dobie who wants nothing more than to get in your lap and cuddle. She does ok with most dogs but again....she is a HBIC and must live with dogs who will respect her sass. Gaia would do best with kids who are 6+ and respectful to their furry companions. Gaia is a bit over weight and is working towards her weight loss goals.

About Us

Sweet Home Doberman Rescue (SHDR) is the only 501c3 not for profit Doberman rescue organization in the state of Alabama. Founded in 2015, SHDR is committed to the rescue, rehabilitation, and placement of abused, abandoned, and/or neglected Dobermans. It is SHDR's personal mission to assist this magnificent breed in any way we can.

We are also dedicated to educating the public as well as future Doberman owners about this majestic, often misunderstood breed. They are often portrayed as aggressive dogs who will attack at a moment's notice when in fact they are Velcro dogs who are loyal, protective, and want to please their family!  A Doberman wants nothing more than to be by your side and on your couch.

We have recently opened our doors to German Shepherd Dogs, who have a special place in our hearts as well. They are also a very misunderstood breed who would benefit from our extensive knowledge on the breed so we can educate the public as well as rescue, rehabilitate, and place abused, abandoned, and neglected GSDs.

Dog of the Month

Winston Furhill is the dog of the month!

Winston was found as a stray at 9 years old. Nobody had coming looking for him. He was skinny, heartworm positive, and seemed to be poorly kept. He spent the next 9 months waiting in a shelter hoping for a second chance. The staff at the shelter stood in his court doing all they could to help him find a great retirement home. Thankfully, SHDR was able to help get this boy into a foster and continue the search for a very special home for a very special boy. Winston would love nothing more than a family he can go on adventures with, stand watch, and have the attention all on him. He enjoys trotting around the woods on hikes, swimming in ponds, and making his rounds in the house to make sure all is secure. Winston doesn't realize he is "old", nope this boy still has all the spunk of a youngin'! If you are up for an "old" pup, look no further!

Volunteer of the Month

Karey Jones and family have been a true blessing for SHDR. They have always been willing to take anyone who needed a place to go. Their little ones are very respectful and show the dogs so much love and kindness. Not only are they impeccable fosters, they also help with transport any time they are able.
