About Us

Sweet Home Doberman Rescue (SHDR) is the only 501c3 not for profit Doberman rescue organization in the state of Alabama. Founded in 2015, SHDR is commited to the rescue, rehabilitation, and placement of abused, abandoned, and/or neglected Dobermans. It is SHDR's personal mission to assist this magnificent breed in any way we can.

We are also dedicated to educating the public as well as future Doberman owners about this majestic, often misunderstood breed. They are often portrayed as aggressive dogs who will attack at a moment's notice when in fact they are Velcro dogs who are loyal, protective, and want to please their family!  A Doberman wants nothing more than to be by your side and on your couch.

Dog of the Month

Seeley is a happy go lucky 1 year old boy who is just thrilled to be alive and free! See, he was chained to a tree his whole life and never got to experience the life inside and off a chain. Seeley is a quirky boy and is all legs. He loves people and other dogs, even seems to be ok with cats too. Seeley has a Christmas wish, to find a forever family by 2020. He would love a home with a brother or sister to play with, even some human siblings too who will teach him cool tricks and spoil him. Is Seeley your next bff?

Volunteer of the Month

The Medina family has poured their heart and soul into their fosters. They not only do everything physically possible for their fosters, they go out of their way to help SHDR with home visits and interviewing applying adopters. The Medina family has recently grown by one and have officially foster failed. We cannot thank the Medina family enough for everything they give to SHDR.
